(ARA) - Now is a great time to invest in your home, and renovating your kitchen is usually the most cost-effective upgrade you can make. As the room where families spend the most time together, the kitchen can be enjoyed on a daily basis and much of the renovation cost can be recouped when you do decide to sell.
Get the most out of your remodel by keeping the answers to these common remodeling questions in mind.
Where's the best place to begin?
According to "My Home, My Money Pit" by Tom Kraeutler and Leslie Segrete, you should start at the end -- by determining how you want to use the remodeled space. Although your primary inclination will be to pick out the style of kitchen you like best, you need to first consider how your kitchen fits your lifestyle and how you need it to function. Think about whether or not you have ample space to work efficiently or enough storage for your kitchen tools. If you use the space to pay bills and handle other household business, think about adding an office area. Once you know what you need from your new kitchen, you'll be able to solve the problems when you're remodeling.
What makes a kitchen remodel more or less expensive?
Kraeutler and Segrete say that cabinets can be the single largest expense in a kitchen remodel. 900 remodel decisions

With the amount of choices there are in wood, door style, finish, hardware, cabinet styles etc, it can feel overwhelming.
We had a customer in the other day who was just starting a project and he mentioned an article he read. The article said there are 900 choices in any kitchen remodel. That sounds about right.
If you look at the overall job from start to finish there is a lot that needs to be decided upon.
I'll post some ideas to help with the process.

Roll out trays - Keeping it organized

When redoing a kitchen make sure to take full advantage of the space in your cabinets. Add roll out trays to provide quick easy access to things you use regularly.

Consider contemporary

Today many homes are going with a contemporay kitchen. Simple clean lines, no moldings, are ways to achive the look.

Many different wood veneers are available for the look. 1/4 Sawn Oak, Cherry, Maple, Mahogany, Fir, to name just a few. Slab door styles that are available work great in the contemporary kitchen.

Shaker styles are also used in contemporary designs because of their simple lines. You can get a different look with Shaker by just changing your hardware.

Don't be shy, add color. Add something that gives your kitchen some pop. Make it your own. You have to live there. Enjoy it!
